Northern District of California Judge Vince Chhabria on Bayer (Monsanto) Roundup MDL

Roundup cancer lawsuits have been reviewed by the United States Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation (JPML).  Upon due consideration, the JPML selected the Northern District of California as the venue in which Monsanto Roundup herbicide cancer claims would be heard by the federal court system.

The Northern District of California is part of the 9th Circuit of the U.S. court system, and appeals are heard by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Consolidation of a multitude of Monsanto Roundup cancer lawsuits was done in accordance with 28 U.S.C. § 1407.  Newly filed cases are expected to likewise be transferred to the Northern District of California.

However, following the Court’s Daubert Hearing on scientific evidence, the Multi-District Litigation is primarily focused on claims for non-Hodgkin lymphoma and certain types of leukemia.
